- Mission
- Teach English, French and Kiswahili so people can talk with neighbours, schools, employers and service providers.
- Vision
- Communities where language is a bridge, not a barrier.
Refugee communities in Uganda speak many languages. Neighbours, schools and employers may each use a different one. YAREN teaches three that open the most doors.
The three languages
- English for school, work and government offices in Uganda
- French for families from the DRC, Burundi and other French-speaking countries, and for those who want to keep or improve it
- Kiswahili for trade and daily life across East Africa
How it works
Learners choose one language and join a group at their level. Classes focus on speaking first, then reading and writing.
Why it matters
Language helps people make friends across communities, find work and get help when they need it. It also builds trust between refugees and their Ugandan hosts.
Who can join
Anyone from refugee or host communities. Beginners are welcome.
