- Mission
- Teach people how to use computers and the internet for learning, work and daily life.
- Vision
- A community where no one is left behind because they cannot use a computer.
Many people who come to YAREN have never used a computer. Some have a phone but find it hard to fill in an online form, send an email or look for work on the internet. This class starts from the beginning and moves at the learner's pace.
What you will learn
- Turning on a computer, using the mouse and keyboard, and saving files
- Typing letters and simple documents
- Creating and using an email account
- Searching the internet safely and spotting scams
- Using a phone for mobile money, online forms and job searches
How classes run
Classes take place at the YAREN hub in Ndejje Kanaaba, Makindye Ssabagabo. Groups are small, so every learner gets time on a computer and help from a trainer. Most of the class is practice, not lectures.
Who can join
Refugees and host community members of any age. You do not need any experience. Young people, women and older learners are all welcome.
Why it matters
Jobs, school places and support services are moving online. Knowing how to use a computer helps people apply for work, keep in touch with family and take part in other YAREN programmes such as business training.
