- Mission
- Bring clean water, good sanitation and hygiene to communities, and prepare them for a changing climate.
- Vision
- Every household with safe water and a healthy place to live.
WASH stands for water, sanitation and hygiene. In crowded settlements and urban areas, a lack of clean water and toilets spreads disease fast. Floods, droughts and rising heat make it worse. This is a community programme. You do not apply to join it. It reaches households through YAREN's field work.
What we do
- Place water filters in schools and health centres
- Teach handwashing and safe water storage at home
- Run cholera prevention campaigns
- Support families to prepare for floods and dry seasons
What we have done
- 2020: During COVID-19, YAREN gave hygiene materials, water filters and face shields to more than 2,000 people, including teen mothers, widows and people with disabilities.
- 2021: We placed 20 Sawyer water filters in schools and health centres, and our cholera prevention work reached more than 1,800 people.
- 2022: WASH became a formal part of YAREN's consultancy work.
How you can help
A gift to YAREN buys filters, hygiene kits and training for community health volunteers. Partners can work with us to bring WASH projects to more settlements.
